Gastric Band Hypnotherapy Program Overview

Jon Rhodes’ Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program works with the intent of suggesting to your subconscious mind that you have gone through a surgical gastric band procedure. This, as most of you are aware is where an inflatable silicone device is placed around the top portion of the stomach, in order to help weight loss. The placement of the band creates a small pouch, at the top of the stomach. This pouch holds around half a cup of food. (The typical stomach holds about 6 cups of food.) The pouch fills with food quickly, and the band slows the passage of food from the pouch to the lower part of the stomach. As the upper part of the stomach registers as full, it sends the brain a message that the entire stomach is full. This helps the person to be hungry less often, feel full more quickly and for a longer period of time, eat smaller portions, and consequently lose weight over time.

Although this surgery is safer and less invasive than other similar types of surgery such as stomach stapling, it is still not without its risks. Also the high costs involved are also a potential barrier to many people. Hypnotherapy can remove these barriers by offering an alternative. Instead of actually going through with this surgery, a clinical hypnotherapist works with you to convince your subconscious mind that you have undergone this procedure. They guide you into a state of deep relaxation and talk you through the procedure as if it is actually happening. On a conscious level you will be aware that you have received hypnotherapy, but on a subconscious level the subconscious part of your mind will tend to believe you have actually received the surgery. With your subconscious mind convinced that your stomach has a gastric band fitted you will feel less desire to eat food, and the portions you eat will be much smaller.

What’s included in Jon Rhodes’ Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program?

Who is Jon Rhodes and what about his background?

In digging around the web quite a bit, here is a typical comment I have found about Mr. Rhodes. This is from American Chronicle and the full posting can be found here: http://w ww.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/50808

“Jon Rhodes is a well respected clinical hypnotherapist and runs a free hypnosis and meditation site at http://www.freehypnosistreatment.com Click here for free hypnosis. Jon is passionate about the provision of healthcare and knowledge to all. He works in a rehabilitation unit for people suffering from severe mental health disorders, and teaches “Life Skills” in colleges across the UK.â

In all my digging, I have not found anything negative about Mr. Rhodes or his hypnotherapy programs. I can tell you that he is also responsible for the HypnoBusters website that is full of programs to help with everything from motivation to working to stop smoking. HypnoBusters is in the news every now and then, but again in a positive light.

He notes on one of his websites that he was trained by the London College Of Clinical Hypnotherapy in 2002, and that he built up a thriving practice around the North West Region of England. And as noted above, started off working in the metal health field. Many of the people he worked with suffered from severe mental illness such as schizophrenia. He enjoyed helping people and decided to train as a clinical hypnotherapist with his therapeutic background to draw from.

My honest opinion regarding the Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program materials

E-book :

This guide is a very short 6 pages of reading. However, it is very well done. Professionally printed, logically outlined and without a single typo! (That’s rare in the days of digital media). I strongly suggest that you read this guide before listening to the audio portion of the program. Pay special attention to the sections covering: ‘How the sessions work’, ‘How to use the sessions’, ‘Weight loss and mind set’. Again, in my opinion this is one of the better e-books I have run across.

Audio sessions:

I found the audio segments of the program to be well recorded. The only difficult part was getting use to Mr. Rhodes English accent. Once you have that down, these are easy to listen to with clear noise free recordings that are produced with music and sounds to help you in reaching that deeply relaxed state. Using headphones of some type will really help with these they help to block out external background noise in your home.

I found that these audio sessions do deliver on their goal of providing a personal hypnotherapy experience. An experience that I found to be quite pleasant and very relaxing. So, these have my approval as well. Also, note that I listened to each of these tracks two ways: First, objectively to judge the quality of the recording and secondly, in the active role of a subject, desiring to lose weight.

My personal experience with this hypnotherapy program

In general, for all the audio sessions I listened to; including the one on relaxation mentioned below; I found the experience to be very relaxing. The sessions all spend about half their time talking you to a state of deep relaxation, once there suggestions are given that detail the purpose of the session. For an example, in session one of the Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program, once you are at the part in the session where you should be pretty deeply relaxed, Mr. Rhodes has you very specifically detail the interior of the clinic you are visiting. Everything from the color of the carpeting to the layout of the office and examination room. This detail is what your subconscious mind absorbs and convinces it that you really had this experience, even though your conscious mind knows better.

For me, almost all the time, I would ‘fall asleep’ about two-thirds of the way through and be woken up by the part of the session that is supposed to wake you up. I wouldn’t realize this right away, but then it would dawn on me that at a point, I no longer heard Mr. Rhodes talking or the music. After I was fully awake, I would take the time to listen to the session objectively and was surprised to hear all the specific detail in the session that I did not remember. That was a funny feeling. But the session itself is not scary or frighting at all…..Instead it is really relaxing!

I can say without question that Jon Rhodes’ Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program is NO SCAM. Everything from the Gastric Band Hypnotherapy website, to the program materials themselves are very professionally produced with care.

If you really want to move ahead with your decision to loose weight, I honestly believe that this program of self hypnosis and weight loss will help you reach your goal. Because of the author’s generous 60 – day money back guarantee, you have enough time to go through the entire program to see if it will work for you. And if not, a quick email will get your refund on its way to you. So, the only thing you can lose here is the weight you are wanting to get rid of once and for all. Moderately priced, the entire program is way cheaper than even diet shakes for a week, let alone what the cost of the actual surgical procedure would be. Comes with a 60 – day no quibble money back guarantee.

Big suggestion

If you are really unsure if hypnotherapy will work for you, click on the video below and spend  a few minutes watching a full length session by clinical hypnotherapist Jon Rhodes DHyp for FREE. With this session on ‘Deep Relaxation Hypnosis’, you will experience the steps actually taken to help you reach a state of really deep relaxation.  (This, in fact, is what let me to investigate the Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program further, as I found the Deep Relaxation session worked very well for me). This way you can experience a REAL full-on session and will know for a fact if hypnosis for weight loss will work for YOU.

Good luck on you efforts to drop those pounds. I hope that my website has helped you.

Why “Diets” Just Don’t Work

When most people talk about losing weight, they immediately associate this with dieting. It is commonly thought that in order to lose weight you must go on a diet. By the term diet I mean a temporary restrictive eating plan. The vast majority of people that go on a diet do not lose weight permanently.

In fact years of research backs it up that for the majority, diets don’t lead to permanent weight loss. This is not surprising really, given that by its very nature, a diet is a temporary thing. What happens once you have finished the diet?

For sure quite a lot of people do lose some weight when they go on a diet, but how many times do you hear that they put it all back on again? Why is this do you think?

It is because these diets are difficult, if not impossible to to sustain. A planned diet controls us, when what we really need to do is gain control of our food intake ourselves. They may tell you to eat 6 meals per day, or deny you of all your favourite foods. This is difficult to sustain for the rest of your life. Eventually a time will come when you have had enough, and will return back to your old ways. Then what happens – your weight returns to its old level.

A diet only works for as long as you are on it. The majority of people get bored with strict eating plans and go off the rails from time to time. Many people perceive a lapse like this as a sign of failure, and end up with feelings of inadequacy.

A lapse like this can cause them to overeat as a way of dealing with these negative feelings. Many over weight people over eat to help them deal with emotional problems, rather than because they are hungry. A diet can be the catalyst for a vicious cycle of losing weight, going off the rails, feeling bad, and gaining weight again.

Many people go from diet to diet, hoping to find the one that will stop them from failing. However such a diet doesn’t really exist, and they may end up increasing weight each time they try.

Professor Traci Mann, from the University of California, Los Angeles, analysed 31 long term studies that followed people on a range of diets from two to five years. Her results, published in the April 2007 issue of the journal American Psychologist, concluded that most people would have been better off not dieting at all.

Prof Mann found that although the dieters lost up to 10% of their starting weight in the first six months, around two thirds of the people on diets regained more weight than they lost within four or five years.

So instead of dieting, you should look at maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Contrary to popular belief, a healthy lifestyle does not have to be difficult, and it does not have to be painful or time consuming. Making a few small and simple changes to your lifestyle can make a massive difference in the long term. All you need to do is reduce the number of calories you eat every day, but you do not need to be left feeling hungry and deprived.

You must make permanent changes if you want permanent weight loss. They must be realistic if you are to stick to them. Here are some very simple things you can do to permanently change your lifestyle in order to permanently lose weight.

1. Buy slightly smaller plates, and give yourself slightly smaller portions with every meal.

2. Consciously try to eat a little slower. You will actually enjoy the food more, plus you will feel more satisfied when you have finished as it takes time for the brain to register that you have eaten.

3. Get into cooking more home made meals. Enjoy the process of buying the ingredients and making the meal. These more nutritious meals will satisfy you for longer.

4. Leave something with every meal. Even if it is just a tiny amount. Keep yourself in the habit of not letting the portion sizes control how much you eat.

5. Write a shopping list when you next go shopping and stick to it. You don’t have to be a monk and ignore all your favourite foods, but be sensible. A little of what you fancy is fine, but tone down the unhealthy snacks.

6. If you have a sweet tooth, then try sucking boiled sweets. They take far longer to eat than other sweets and chocolates, meaning you consume far less, but they still give you that sweet fix.

7. Reduce alcohol consumption. Beers and wines in particular are full of calories, but don’t provide any real nutrition. If you must drink alcohol, find lower calorie beers and wines. Better still, switch to spirits with low calorie mixers.

8. Stop drinking sugary drinks. You can consume a lot of calories per day in what you drink. Try to wean yourself onto drinking more water. There are no calories in water, and it is good for you Stop adding sugar to hot drinks, and switch to low sugar soft drink alternatives.

9. Find a physical activity that you enjoy. It could be walking, swimming, tennis, dancing, anything at all that gets you moving. You are not aiming to be an Olympic athlete, so a bit of enjoyable exercise is all you need. Set regular days and times, and stick to them.

10. Be patient. If you are managing to lose a pound or 2 per week, then that is great. There is no rush. Even losing just one pound per week will give you a total weight loss of 26 pounds in 6 months.

So try these tips to reduce your overall calorie consumption. It may be a good idea to print this list out and keep it in a prominent place as a reminder. You do not need to live a life of denial, but you do need to make changes if you wish to lose weight. Think more in terms of lifestyle changes than quick fix dieting. It may be slower to lose the weight, but it will stay off. The more realistic and sustainable these lifestyle changes are, the more likely you are stick with them in the long term. Good luck!

If you need help reducing your food intake, I *HIGHLY* recommend the Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program. This unique therapy uses the power of hypnotherapy to convince your mind that you have had gastric band surgery. This results in you naturally eating less, causing permanent weight loss.

Hypnotherapy as a credible tool

You may find that you have a lot of questions regarding hypnosis and hypnotherapy for weight loss as I did. Let’s lay some foundational ground work with some quick discussion about what hypnosis and hypnotherapy really are.

What is hypnosis?

How about aa definition from an outside source. Someone more credible than myself. How about Wikipedia? Here is their definition:

Hypnosis is a mental state (according to “state theory”) or imaginative role-enactment (according to “non-state theory”).[1][2][3][4] It is usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a long series of preliminary instructions and suggestions.[5] Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject, or may be self-administered (“self-suggestion” or “autosuggestion”). The use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes is referred to as “hypnotherapy“, while its use as a form of entertainment for an audience is known as “stage hypnosis“.

The words hypnosis and hypnotism both derive from the term neuro-hypnotism (nervous sleep) coined by the Scottish surgeon James Braid around 1841. Braid based his practice on that developed by Franz Mesmer and his followers (“Mesmerism” or “animal magnetism“), but differed in his theory as to how the procedure worked.

Contrary to a popular misconception – that hypnosis is a form of unconsciousness resembling sleep – contemporary research suggests that hypnotic subjects are fully awake and are focusing attention, with a corresponding decrease in their peripheral awareness.[6] Subjects also show an increased response to suggestions.[7] In the first book on the subject, Neurypnology (1843), Braid described “hypnotism” as a state of physical relaxation accompanied and induced by mental concentration (“abstraction”).[8]To view the entire posting from Wikipedia, please go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnosis

What is hypnotherapy?

Again, lets take the definition straight from Wikipedia:

“Hypnotherapy is a therapy that is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.[citation needed] The word “hypnosis” (from the Greek hypnos, “sleep”) is an abbreviation of James Braid‘s (1841) term “neuro-hypnotism”, meaning “sleep of the nervous system”. This entire Wikipedia source may be read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnotherapy

There is a large and growing tradition of hypnosis being used for therapeutic purposes, not just for entertainment. In fact therapeutic and entertainment hypnosis are two very different things. A clinical hypnotherapist does not aim to create the illusion of having people ‘under’ his control. His aim is to place suggestions in the unconscious mind the patient wants. Therefore if someone REALLY wants to stop smoking, or lose weight, then their unconscious mind will accept these suggestions, and it will help them. However, since the patient is not being controlled, they are free to reject these suggestions. That is why someone who does not really wish to give up smoking, lose weight, or whatever, will not benefit from hypnotherapy, apart from the relaxation side of it. Their unconscious minds will simply reject the suggestions.

But what do the skeptics say?

Good question. I have a good answer from another source. This is from Tom Harris’s article ‘How Hypnosis Works’, from the How Stuff Works website. Here Mr. Harris discusses the ‘Magic Feather’:

“In the relatively short history of modern hypnotism, there have been dozens of hypnotic techniques and a wide range of explanations of the phenomenon. The only constant through all of this has been the hypnotic subjects themselves. No matter how you view the art of the hypnotist, it is undeniable that people do enter a special state in which they are abnormally suggestible and uninhibited.

Modern skeptics have a sound and convincing explanation of this unusual state. Hypnotic subjects aren’t actually in a trance state, they argue, they only think they are. Social pressure and the influence of the hypnotist are often enough to convince people that they should act a certain way. When they find themselves heeding the suggestions, they think they must be in a hypnotic trance. Proponents of this theory contend that this belief alone may be powerful enough to bring about remarkable changes in a person. If you think someone is compelling you to act a certain way, you will act that way. If you think hypnotic suggestion will ease your pain, your mind will bring about this feeling.

In this view, an effective hypnotist isn’t one that can probe the hidden reaches of your mind, but one with strong enough authority and charisma to convince you to go along.

In the general sense, this phenomenon is known as the placebo effect. In numerous studies, people who were given ordinary sugar pills behaved and felt differently only because they thought they should. It’s clear that the mind can influence all aspects of the physical body, so it makes sense that a firmly held belief can reduce pain or even help treat a disease.

But in the end, this explanation of hypnosis amounts to pretty much the same thing as the trance theory. When you absolutely convince somebody that you’ve brought about a change in their subconscious, they register this information as a fact. Like any fact, this information will take root in the subconscious mind. So, even if the hypnotic state is nothing more than a figment of the subject’s imagination, hypnotic suggestions can still reform their deeply held beliefs. The end result is the same!” You can read this article in it’s entirety at: http://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/extrasensory-perceptions/hypnosis.htm

Will hypnotherapy for weight loss really work for you or me?

I think that this is another way of asking: Can I be hypnotized? The answer is that some people can be hypnotized to a deeper level than others, but it is my understanding that everyone can to some degree be hypnotized… Unless you don’t wish to be. You can easily resist a trance. Keep in mind that a hypnotherapist is like a guide. Their job is to help you get into a natural hypnotic state through deep relaxation. Anyone can resist it if they want to.  I have found that research, developed by board-certified hypnotist Gerald Kein, claims that everybody is equally hypnotisable and that “people accept hypnosis in direct relationship to the amount of fear they have”. This fear will keep you from attaining a deeply relaxed state. But on the other hand, if you really do want to lose weight, planting this thought into your subconscious mind is more likely than not going to help you reach that goal, because it is reinforcing your conscious efforts to do so.

Wow, we have really covered a lot of ground here about hypnosis and weight loss using hypnosis. I hope that you may have learned something new. Next up, I look in more detail about Jon Rhodes and his Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program.

How hypnosis works – a little background

As I mentioned earlier, many people’s perception of hypnosis is what they have seen or heard of from stage shows. They see people “under” the hypnotists “control€. People may be “made” to dance like Elvis, or think that they are a child again. Most people cannot be hypnotised to the point of seeing things that are not there.

For the majority of us, a hypnotic trance merely increases our powers of focus and imagination. This can help us to ‘talk’ to the unconscious parts of our minds. This is the part that is responsible for our habits and urges and the area that can be targeted to help change some of our ‘bad’ habits and urges. Allowing us to use hypnotism for weight loss as a a tool.

Struggling with weight seems like a never ending battle to me. Now, I am not fighting a big problem with my weight, but at 57 and about 10 pounds over weight I do want to drop those pounds and it’s just not easy. I have tried shakes, bars and other supplements but I just get tired of those real fast. I watch what I eat and have really cut down on red meat and fatty foods. Exercise is probably my biggest obstacle and that’s because it can get very routine for me if I don’t mix it up quite a  bit with walking, hiking, biking, heck even gardening. If I don’t mix it up enough I just end  up stopping the exercise all together for a time, before I pick it up again. So, I decided to search for concrete information related to new ways and  tools to help loose weight. Ones that work. I have found some products online that ‘do’ deliver on their promises.

I think that hypnotherapy is a very interesting field and in closer investigation, seems like it may be a tool I could use to help me with my personal weight loss goal. Now I am not talking about the old stage hypnosis with it’s apparent ability to control people’s minds and get them to do things they normally would not. I am talking about therapeutic hypnosis, or in this case, hypnotherapy for weight loss. The two are quite different, yet both still rely on the phenomenon of hypnosis.

If you have any sort of interest in hypnosis or hypnotherapy for weight loss then you have probably noticed the recent attention that gastric band hypnotherapy has been receiving. This blog’s purpose is to explain what this is and if it may work for you or me. In fact, I am the guinea pig here because I have gone through the Jon Rhodes’ Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program and will be able to relate to you what the experience was like for me. I will also be able to tell you first hand if Jon Rhodes’ Gastric Band Hypnotherapy program is a scam or not and if hypnotherapy for weight loss is something that you should seriously consider, or just forget.
